Academia

Saul Polo graduated with a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Montreal and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the École des Hautes Études Commerciales de Montréal, obtained in 1999. He also obtained a graduate certificate in accounting-finance in 2001 and a graduate certificate in international business in 2002 at McGill University.

Professional occupations

His professional career began as Director of Business Development at CIBC Asset Management from 2002 to 2008. He then served as Senior Solution Management Specialist at Dundee Wealth in 2008 and 2009, then as Product and Asset Development Specialist. business at VMBL from 2009 to 2012.

In 2012-2014, he served as President and CEO of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce. 

Saul was elected Liberal MP in Laval-des-Rapides in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. He served as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Economy, Innovation and Exports (exports component) from 2014 to 2016, then parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation until 2017. He was also parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Finance until August 2018 and spokesperson for the official opposition on energy and natural resources (2018-2021) as well as on immigration (2021-2022). He then served as Practice Leader at Filaction, a local investment and social impact fund, from May 2023 to February 2024.

Professional involvement (volunteerism)

Saul has been involved in several organizations, notably as a member of the Finance and Economic Development Committee of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Quebec from 2009 to 2014, vice-president of Public Affairs of the Young Chamber of Commerce of Montreal in 2010 and 2011, and director on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Laval in 2012. He also co-founded the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Quebec (QuéTal) and was a volunteer at the Fondation de l'Orchestre Laval Symphony Orchestra.

Awards and distinctions

Saul has been recognized for his commitment and contributions, being a finalist at the 2011 Arts-Affaires Awards in the Business Volunteer category, winner of the “Top 20 for Diversity 2012” and the Administrator of the Year award at the Regroupement Gala of the young chambers of commerce of Quebec in 2012. He also received the National Assembly Medal in 2012 and was named among the top 10 most influential Hispanic-Canadians by HispanicBusiness.ca in 2013.
